Edward Timpson, the MP for Eddisbury, met with Cheshire for Good, a unique responsible business community of great businesses in Cheshire working together to create positive change in Cheshire and for the world.
Cheshire for Good’s Founder and Director, Donna Okell, highlighted to the local Conservative MP how businesses all over the County are taking ownership of their social and environmental impact.
Cheshire for Good has signed up to the Better Business Act coalition, a group of nearly 750 businesses looking to amend the Companies Act so that every British company aligns the interest of shareholders with that of society and the environment.
Mr Timpson met with Cheshire for Good to discuss how the reform would benefit businesses across Cheshire and the North West.
Donna Okell, Founder and Director of Cheshire for Good, said:
“We enjoyed speaking with Edward and discussing the work we are doing across Cheshire.
“As members of the Better Business Act coalition, we believe that business’ role in society should go beyond making money.
“We are passionate about encouraging our members and businesses in Cheshire to contribute to society while delivering returns. Businesses should be embedded in their communities and be part of the social fabric.
“I know that many business leaders already think deeply about their impact on workers, their communities, environment and customers—and the law ought to reflect this.”
Edward Timpson CBE, Conservative MP for Eddisbury, commented:
“It was a pleasure to meet with Donna about Cheshire for Good, and learn more about the great work their team are doing across Cheshire, and further afield, to enhance the social and environmental impact of local businesses.
“After all they are an integral part of Cheshire’s local economy, and so are well placed to engender positive change in our communities.
“I hope as many businesses as possible in the County will endorse the Better Business Act, and that my Parliamentary colleagues to do the same, so that Cheshire businesses can lead by example.”
