CREWE and Nantwich MP Edward Timpson is urging Cheshire East Council to clean up the parking ‘mess’ and ‘deliver fairness for all’.
The council has this week announced Sunday parking charges are to be removed in Crewe and Nantwich from this weekend.
But the Conservative MP has called on the Tory-run authority to quickly sort out parking charges so they are fair for residents in both towns.
“I know the council had an awful lot of mess to sort out after the Labour Government merged the boroughs but now it’s time for Conservative councillors to clean up the mess,” he said. “There is a strategy, but we need to see it rolled out quicker.”
Conservative councillor Derek Bebbington said he welcomed the Sunday charges being scrapped.
“We have kept the promise at the council meeting on February 25 to scrap Sunday parking charges,” he said. “This will not only save money for those people shopping in Crewe and Nantwich on Sundays, but will also help the shopkeepers by encouraging more people to visit our town centres.”
