Fury over traffic chaos near to Crewe college site
Belinda Ryan, Crewe and Nantwich Chronicle
ANGRY residents claim their lives are being blighted by construction lorries and students’ cars at South Cheshire College.
More than 20 residents turned out to a meeting with Crewe and Nantwich MP Edward Timpson, college principal Peter Swift, highways bosses and councillors to discuss the problems around the Somerville Road entrance.
The meeting, which had been arranged by Mr Timpson, took place in the street on Monday morning so highways bosses could see for themselves the chaos caused by parked cars during the rush hour.
Traffic was tailed back along the busy road and cars and lorries mounted the pavement as they tried to get along the residential street.
One resident told how wheelchairs and parents pushing buggies had trouble getting along the pavements.
Resident Paul Dyer said: “The college had nearly 800 parking spaces before this building started. Now there’s 480 with 5% of those reserved.”
He said students, staff and construction workers working on rebuild all park on Somerville Street and surrounding roads.
